Corrupt official accepting bribes from private businessmen

Officers from the Regional Office of the Central Anticorruption Bureau in Poznań detained five people linked to corruption at the District Center for Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation in Poznań. The investigation is supervised by the Wielkopolska Regional Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Poznań.

Corruption at the District Center for Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation in Poznań

Officers of the Regional Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in Poznań are conducting an investigation under the supervision of the Wielkopolska Regional Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Poznań.

The ongoing preparatory proceedings concern the acceptance of financial benefits by a public official, during and in connection with the performance of official duties, from private entrepreneurs, in exchange for providing information from the office's IT database concerning, among other things, land and its owners.

Moreover, as part of the criminal conduct, the official significantly influenced the course of matters pending in the office to the benefit of selected private entrepreneurs.
Corrupt practices at the District Center for Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation in Poznań are said to be undertaken from December 2021 to April 2022.

Corruption among individuals performing public functions

The evidence collected during the preparatory proceedings shows that the official of the District Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation Center cooperated with local entrepreneurs operating in the real estate industry, to whom, in exchange for financial benefits, he provided data from the office's IT systems.

On January 24, 2024, based on the Prosecutor's decisions, CBA officers of the Regional Office from Poznań detained five people - an official of a public institution and four private entrepreneurs.

Searches were carried out at the place of residence and business activities of the detained persons in order to secure evidence that may be important in the investigation. Officers of the Central Anticorruption Bureau seized electronic equipment, cash and documentation.  The suspects were taken to the Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Poznań, where they were charged under Art. 228 Penal Code and 229 Penal Code.

As part of the investigative activities, officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau also summoned  the employees of the District Center for Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation.

Preventive measures applied in the investigation

The Prosecutor applied a non-custodial preventive measure in the form of police supervision against all suspects. The main suspect was suspended from his official duties and banned from leaving the country with his passport confiscated, as were two private entrepreneurs.
The prosecutor applied bail, to the detained persons, in the amount from PLN 20,000.00 to PLN 50,000.00. The total value of bail for the suspects in this case amounts to PLN 120,000.00.
