Extorted grants and loans for more than PLN 12 million - 6 persons detained
CBA officers have detained six persons in connection with the investigation into, among other things, frauds to the detriment of the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) and the Marshal's Office of the Silesian Voivodeship. Two persons were remanded in custody. Asset security on the property of the suspects amounts to over PLN 3 million.
Operations in 4 voivodships
On 19 July 2023, officers of the CBA Regional Office in Katowice, in the area of the Silesian, Mazovian, Lower Silesian and West Pomeranian Voivodeships, detained six persons, under investigation to the detriment of the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) and the Marshal's Office of the Silesian Voivodeship. The detainees include persons managing companies which participated in the extortion of funds. The activities were carried out by order of the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Gliwice.
Extorted grants and loans
According to the findings of CBA officers, the criminal scheme consisted, among other things, in extorting subsidies and loans for the purchase of equipment, production lines, as well as services and modern technologies related to biomass production. The purchases were financed from EU funds. The purchases were financed from EU funds. Business entities issued fraudulent VAT invoices and other documents of legal significance, which certified the provision of services and the supply of goods, which were fictitious.
Organized crime group
The prosecutor of the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Gliwice, who has been supervising the proceedings, has presented the detainees with charges of participating in an organised crime group, fraud and certifying untruthful documents.
The prosecutor submitted motions for the application of an isolation prevention measure against two suspects. The District Court in Gliwice granted the motions in its entirety and, pursuant to that decision, two suspects were remanded in custody for three months. Against the remaining suspects, the prosecutor applied preventive isolation measures in the form of police supervision and property surety. At the same time, property security was established on the property of the suspects in the total amount of over PLN 3 million.
