Claiming influence in state institutions
Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau Regional Office in Wrocław have uncovered a criminal scheme involving the exploitation of influence in state institutions. The investigation is being supervised by the Greater Poland Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor's Office in Poznań.
Exploitation of Influence for Environmental Approvals and Medical Contracts
Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau Regional Office in Wrocław have uncovered a criminal scheme involving the exploitation of influence in state institutions. The investigation is being supervised by the Greater Poland Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor's Office in Poznań.
Individuals involved in the illegal scheme acted as intermediaries in obtaining favorable environmental decisions for the construction of hazardous and non-hazardous waste treatment facilities, as well as arranging favorable outcomes and contracts for medical services.
Arrests in Lower Silesia
On February 26, 2024, officers from the CBA Regional Offices in Wrocław, Poznań, Warsaw, and Katowice, fulfilling the instructions of the Prosecutor, detained four men, including a former senator. The officers also conducted searches in 12 locations in Lower Silesia.
The detainees have been brought to the Greater Poland Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor's Office in Poznań.
The suspects faced charges under Article 230 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to influence peddling.
Applied preventive measures
In respect of one of the suspects, the Prosecutor applied to the Court for an isolationary preventive measure in the form of pre-trial detention.
When it comes to the former senator, preventive measures were applied in the form of police supervision and a ban on contacting specific persons.
Against the remaining two suspects, the prosecutor applied for non-isolationary preventive measures in the form of police supervision, a bail in the amount of PLN 10,000.00 to PLN 50,000.00, and a ban on leaving the country. Moreover, in respect of one of them, a ban on contacting other suspects in the ongoing investigation was applied.
