Successful cooperation between CBA and the Dominican Police

A Polish citizen who had been hiding from the Polish justice system in the Dominican Republic for over a year has been arrested. This was the result of effective cooperation within Interpol between the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Dominican police. The man is suspected of participating in an organized criminal group involved in fiscal offenses, money laundering, and tax fraud.

Effective international cooperation

The man was formally wanted by the Police Station in Będzin in connection with an investigation conducted by the Regional Office of the CBA in Łódź under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice. CBA officers were actively involved in the search for the suspect. Thanks to the information provided by the CBA and the use of international cooperation mechanisms, the Dominican police located and arrested the wanted individual.

Search based on an Interpol Red Notice

Cooperation with the Interpol National Central Bureau in the Dominican Republic to ensure the effective return of the wanted man to Poland posed a significant challenge, as Poland does not have a bilateral extradition treaty with the Dominican Republic. Consequently, it was necessary to wait for circumstances that would allow the application of deportation procedures against the man, followed by his arrest on the basis of an Interpol Red Notice.

The successful deportation of the man is further proof that the Dominican Republic is ceasing to be a safe haven for criminals who believe that the lack of international agreements will allow them to evade criminal liability.

Serious charges

The man is suspected, among other things, of participating in an organized criminal group engaged in fiscal offenses, as a result of which the State Treasury suffered losses exceeding PLN 2 million. Based on the collected evidence, at the request of the prosecutor, the court imposed a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of three months of pre-trial detention.
