On 12 October 2026, officers of the CBA Regional Office in Rzeszów detained the Mayor of Sanok on the instructions of a prosecutor from the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów. During the investigation, documents and data storage devices that may constitute evidence in the case were secured.

Promise of a Financial or Personal Benefit

In April 2026, the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów and the CBA Regional Office in Rzeszów received a report concerning a reasonable suspicion that a representative of the Sanok municipal authorities had committed a criminal offence. A prosecutor from the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów entrusted the investigation to officers of the CBA Regional Office in Rzeszów.

According to the findings of the investigation, the local government official allegedly made a corrupt proposal to a member of the Sanok City Council. In exchange for arranging employment for the councillor at one of Sanok's municipal companies, the Mayor expected the councillor to support him in council votes and to persuade and secure the support of another councillor, who would also vote in accordance with the Mayor's expectations.

Charges and Preventive Measures

The detainee was brought before the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów, where the prosecutor charged him with an offence under Article 231 § 1 in conjunction with Article 229 § 1 and Article 11 § 2 of the Polish Penal Criminal Code (abuse of power and promising a financial or personal benefit to a person performing a public function). The alleged offence is punishable by imprisonment for a term ranging from six months to eight years.

The prosecutor imposed non-custodial preventive measures on the suspect, including police supervision combined with a prohibition on contacting a designated witness, bail in the amount of PLN 30,000, a ban on leaving the country, and suspension from official duties as Mayor of Sanok for the duration of the proceedings.
