A fraud in Podkarpacie- charges against a former Member of Parliament and former Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Police

Former Member of Parliament Jan B. and former Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Police have faced charges in connection with a multi-threaded investigation conducted jointly by the investigators of the CBA Regional Office in Rzeszów and the Silesian Local Division of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office.

The investigators’ findings indicate that in 2013, having no legal grounds, Mirosław S. undertook official activities against the former Deputy Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodship, thus exceeding his powers and acting for the benefit of former MP Jan B. Moreover, the evidence gathered in the case shows that the former police officer disclosed information constituting professional secrecy to Jan B. In this respect, the charges against Jan B., who incited the former Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Police to commit crimes to retaliate against his political opponent, have also been supplemented. The charges against Jan B., related to the so-called Subcarpathian affair, were already brought in November 2015 and January 2019.
The multi-faceted investigation into the fraud in Podkarpacie has been carried out for several years. In addition to the former Member of Parliament, several dozen people have heard charges in this investigation, including the former Deputy Minister for Infrastructure, the former heads of the public prosecutor's offices in Rzeszów, a businessman dealing in the fuel industry in Podkarpacie, the former President and former Vice-President of the Jasło Refinery and the Director of the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Krosno. Some of the threads have already ended with indictments filed in court against the former head of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK) and the former head of the appeal prosecutor's office in Rzeszów. In January 2020, Mirosław K., the former Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodship, heard the final sentence of three years' imprisonment.
