Detained in the act of committing a crime
Thanks to the effectiveness of the activities undertaken by the CBA officers, a man suspected of accepting financial gains has been detained.
An employee of the Bytom branch of the Mine Restructuring Company has been detained by the CBA officers of the Regional Office in Katowice. The man was apprehended on Thursday afternoon near the Polonia Bytom Stadium, a moment after he had accepted 30 thousand zlotys in cash. The bribe constituted “remuneration” in exchange for awarding procurements and accepting construction works. The findings of the CBA investigators indicate that it was only the beginning of the future “cooperation”.
The detainee faced corruption charges at the Silesian Field Division of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice. By a court decision, he will spend the next three months in custody. The investigation is developing.
Due to the pending proceedings, the CBA informs all individuals who have given a financial advantage and thus got involved in the case that they may take advantage of the so-called non-punishment provision under article 229 paragraph 6 of the Criminal Code. The offender must notify about the fact before the law enforcement authorities have learnt about it from a different source and disclose all material circumstances of the criminal offence.
