Former Member of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland detained by the CBA

The officers of the CBA Regional Office in Katowice have detained a former member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland who served in the years 2005-2019. The case concerns corruption and invoking influence in state institutions.

By order of the Lublin II Local Division of the Department for Organised Crime and Corruption at the National Prosecutor's Office in Lublin, the officers of the CBA Regional Office in Katowice detained Grzegorz J., a former member of the Polish Parliament in the years 2005-2019.
The man was detained in Rybnik. The activities are related to the proceedings concerning the acceptance of financial advantages in connection with the performance of a public function in the years 2016-2018. The ongoing investigation also involves invoking influence in state institutions and undertaking intermediation in arranging matters in exchange for bribes.
After the completion of procedural activities, the man was taken to the prosecutor's office, where he heard the charges.
He is suspected of accepting financial gains in exchange for recommending and contributing to the appointment to positions in state-owned companies. He has also been charged with invoking influence in the Central Board of the Prison Service and abuse of powers of a member of the Polish Parliament to undertake parliamentary intervention in a state enterprise by influencing decisions taken by the enterprise's director.
