Four persons detained. Investigation on extortion of millions of zlotys in the background

Four persons have been detained in a case related to trading in so-called blank invoices. The investigation has been carried out by the CBA Regional Office in Warsaw, under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw. The detainees are entrepreneurs from Mazovia. The investigation is in progress.

Officers of the CBA Regional Office in Warsaw have detained four entrepreneurs in connection with an investigation carried out under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw. This is a continuation of activities under investigation of the issuing of nearly 1,500 invoices worth up to PLN 23 million between 2016 and 2018. The invoices did not document real business transactions.

The suspects were detained in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. Due to the entry of inaccurate VAT invoices in their purchase registers, they have been accused of, among others, providing an untruth in the invoices. Having announced the charges, the prosecutor applied non-custodial preventive measures against the detainees. Apart from financial penalties, the suspects may face up to 8 years in prison for their criminal offences.

All evidence indicates that they were using invoices concerning fictitious transactions to decrease the amount of tax due to be paid for their business activities to the relevant tax offices. The analysis of the evidence confirms that the scale of issuing unreliable VAT invoices amounts to tens of millions of zlotys and the blank invoices were received by over a dozen entrepreneurs from the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. In the course of the proceedings, officers of the CBA Regional Office in Warsaw retrieved accounting and tax documentation of the entities that used blank invoices. The first operation within this investigation was carried out at the beginning of April this year.

The investigation has already brought charges against 8 entrepreneurs who used blank invoices.
