Arrest for Mayor of Duszniki-Zdrój and entrepreneur Ryszard S.
Late yesterday evening, the District Court in Świdnica granted the motion of the Świdnica District Prosecutor's Office and applied a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody for three months against Piotr L. - Mayor of Duszniki-Zdrój and Ryszard S. - a businessman connected with the hotel industry. The suspects were detained by CBA officers on 25 April this year.
Investigation findings
The findings of the CBA officers indicate that the Mayor of Duszniki-Zdrój allegedly issued decisions favourable to the investor for the construction of a hotel facility in an area covered by the “Natura 2000” protection programme. The Mayor was alleged to have cooperated with Ryszard S., who was the actual beneficiary of the decisions issued to implement the construction of the hotel.
Charges against civil servants
The charges brought against the Mayor of Duszniki-Zdrój include abuse of powers and the attestation of untruths in documents related to the implementation of an investment involving the construction of one of the hotels in the area of Duszniki-Zdrój, to achieve financial gain.
The Mayor of Duszniki-Zdrój was presented with a charge of accepting a financial advantage and a promise thereof. Moreover, in his asset declaration, he failed to include a loan received from one of the entrepreneurs.
Other civil servants, including the director of one of the departments of the District Governor’s Office in Kłodzko and Ryszard S.'s colleague, faced charges of abuse of power and certifying untruths in documents related to the implementation of said investment, with a view to gaining financial advantages.
Furthermore, Ryszard S.'s associate faced a charge of giving a financial advantage and promising to give an advantage to a public official.
The prosecutor applied non-custodial preventive measures against these persons - police supervision and bail. One of the civil servants was also suspended in his official capacity.
The suspects face up to 10 years in prison.
