Suspended mayor of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski taken into custody
CBA officers have detained the suspected Jarosław G., Mayor of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. New evidence incriminating the local government official has emerged. By court decision, he will be remanded in custody for 3 months.
The local government official taken to the prosecutor's office
On Monday (22 May 2023), officers of the CBA Regional Office in Kraków detained the suspect Jarosław G., Mayor of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, for the investigation conducted under the supervision of the Silesian Local Division of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption at the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice. The activities were carried out in connection with new developments in the case. In March 2023, the local government official faced five charges of accepting financial advantages totalling PLN 40,000 in connection with holding a public function.
Coins for nearly PLN 1.7 million
The suspect Jarosław G. was additionally charged by the prosecutor with inducing a witness to give false testimony and with concealing the sale of gold and silver coins worth PLN 1.7 million to the suspect. These coins were secured in the suspect's flat in the course a search by CBA officers in March this year. Further charges relate to the submission of false asset declarations in 2021-2023 by concealing the purchase of these coins.
Motion for pre-trial detention
In connection with the charges, the prosecutor filed a motion for pre-trial detention of Jarosław G. Today, late at night, the Katowice-East District Court in Katowice decided to grant this motion and remand the suspect in custody for 90 days.
