More people facing charges in the Collegium Humanum
Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau have detained four more people in the case of irregularities at Collegium Humanum. The prosecutor has requested temporary arrest for two people. The investigation is supervised by the Silesian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice.
On 13th November 2024, CBA officers detained former employees of Collegium Humanum in the Silesian Voivodeship, i.e. the vice-rector of the university and his wife, and a day later, two men in Wrocław, including the mayor of Wrocław. The detainees were brought to the Silesian Branch of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice due to the need to conduct activities involving them. The detentions allowed, among other things, to conduct a confrontation between the suspects.
Corruption charges
Jacek S. – The Mayor of Wrocław has been charged with 4 charges, i.e. the charge of giving a financial benefit to the rector of the former Collegium Humanum university, Paweł Cz., in exchange for obtaining a document in the form of a certificate of completion of postgraduate studies "Executive Master of Business Administration", without actually completing them, and fraud charges related to the use of a document certifying an untruth in the form of an MBA diploma in order to mislead representatives of several local government entities and obtain undue benefits related to sitting on supervisory boards. The charge of accepting a financial benefit in the amount of PLN 75,000 was also presented to Paweł Cz. in connection with concluding a fictitious contract for consulting services and a personal benefit in the form of membership in the Council for Academic Activity of Wrocław Technology Park S.A.
Marian D. participated in the presentation of the financial benefit to the former rector of Collegium Humanum. The man was additionally charged with committing six other acts consisting of certifying an untruth in documents concerning the completion of postgraduate studies by other people in exchange for accepting financial benefits.
The vice-rector of the former Collegium Humanum university and his wife also participated in the procedure, accepting money in exchange for issuing false documents confirming the completion of postgraduate studies Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and Doctor of Laws. The prosecutor accused the vice-rector of committing 22 acts, while his wife, who was responsible for recruiting students, was accused of committing 30 acts.
Preventive measures
The prosecutor filed a motion with the Court to apply a preventive measure in the form of temporary arrest against the vice-rector and his wife. In the case of Jacek S., non-custodial preventive measures were applied in the form of a financial guarantee in the amount of PLN 200,000 and police supervision combined with a ban on contacting specific participants in the proceedings. In the case of Marian D., the prosecutor applied a property guarantee of PLN 100,000 and police supervision combined with a ban on contacting specific participants in the proceedings.
