Corruption connections of a famous politician
Former Member of European Parliament (MEP) Karol K., has been charged with corruption in connection with mediating in arranging favorable decisions for Collegium Humanum. A multithreaded investigation into irregularities at universities is being conducted by Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau under the supervision of the Silesian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice.
Foreign branches of universities
According to the findings of officers of the CBA Regional Office in Rzeszów, former MEP Karol K. acted as an intermediary in arranging applications for Collegium Humanum to run branches of the university in Prague, Bratislava and Andijan. He assured the former rector of this university that he had influence in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the case of the branch of Collegium Humanum in Frydek Mistek, former MEP Karol K was supposed to ensure that a positive opinion for the pedagogy major was obtained again. In return, former rector Paweł Cz. paid for a poll report worth nearly PLN 15,000 and election billboards worth over PLN 22,000.
Corruption charges
On 12th November 2024, the prosecutor of the Silesian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice charged Karol K. with committing a crime under Article 230 §1 of the Penal Code in connection with Article 12 § 1 of the Penal Code.
The prosecutor imposed a financial guarantee of PLN 50,000 on the suspect, police supervision, and a ban on contacting specific individuals.
