Allegation of paid protection
Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau detained two people in the case of acting as intermediaries in arranging the supply of motor vehicles for the Territorial Defense Force. The investigation into this case is supervised by the District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw - Praga in Warsaw.
On 5 February 2025, officers of the Regional Office of the CBA in Bydgoszcz detained two men: Sławomir Ż. and Ryszard W. The investigation findings indicate that the detainees were claiming influence in state institutions in 2021-2022 and undertake intermediation, in exchange for financial benefits or a promise thereof, in settling matters related to the sale of trucks for TDF. As it was established, the intermediation was related to the transfer of donations for religious purposes to one of the parishes. The detained Sławomir Ż. is a retired high-ranking military clergyman.
CBA officers searched 10 locations in 3 provinces, including several public institutions and places of residence of the detainees. Officers secured documentation and data storage devices.
Preventive measures
The detainees were brought to the District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw - Praga in Warsaw, where they heard charges of committing an act under Article 230 § 1 of the Penal Code, i.e. paid protection. The Prosecutor applied non-custodial preventive measures, i.e. police supervision combined with a ban on leaving the country, as well as a ban on contacting specific individuals.
The case is ongoing and further actions are planned.
