Investigation into the Railway Industry
Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau have detained two individuals in connection with a demand for a financial benefit of PLN 900,000. The case concerns a contract for the supply of components for the construction of railway railway wagons. The investigation is supervised by the Silesian Division of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice.
On 9 September of this year, officers of the Regional Office of the CBA in Warsaw detained the president of a company operating in the railway industry and an entrepreneur associated with him. Officers secured extensive evidence. The activities were carried out in Warsaw, Poznań, and Katowice.
Managerial Corruption
The CBA officers collected evidence indicating a reasonable suspicion of a crime committed by a person holding a managerial position in a company in the railway industry, acting jointly and in agreement with an entrepreneur. The investigation revealed that the suspects, representing the contracting entity, were involved in a corruption scheme consisting of demanding a financial benefit of PLN 900,000 from a manufacturer of railway wagon components. The detained men were brought before the Silesian Division of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice. During the interrogations, one of the suspects admitted to the alleged offense.
Charges and Preventive Measures
Preventive measures were applied against the suspects, including financial sureties of PLN 100,000 each and a ban on contacting certain individuals. One of the suspects was suspended from performing his duties as president of the company’s management board. The man has also been prohibited from entering the company’s premises.
The case remains ongoing.
