Arrests in a Corruption Case Related to Tram Modernisation
Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau are conducting an investigation into bid rigging related to the modernisation of tram infrastructure. The investigation is supervised by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
On 17 December 2025, officers of the Regional Office of the CBA in Katowice, acting at the request of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, arrested four individuals suspected of involvement in corruption and bid rigging. During searches, officers seized approximately EUR 38,000 in cash and a gold bar.
Irregularities in Public Procurement
The investigation concerns a public procurement contract for the modernisation of tram infrastructure in the Upper Silesian–Zagłębie Metropolis, financed with European Union funds. Among those detained is a person holding a public office.
The findings of the investigation indicate that this person allegedly provided confidential information to a preferred company in order to ensure that it won the contract. The suspect is also charged with committing corruption-related offences.
The Investigation Is Ongoing
The investigation remains ongoing and aims to comprehensively clarify all circumstances of the case and determine the scope of responsibility of the individuals involved. By court decision, one of the suspects has been placed in pre-trial detention.
CBA Appeal
The CBA reminds that, pursuant to Article 229 § 6 of the Polish Criminal Code, a person who has given a material or personal benefit, or promised to give such a benefit, and whose benefit or promise has been accepted, is not subject to punishment if they notify the authority responsible for prosecuting crimes of this fact and disclose all relevant circumstances of the offence before the authority becomes aware of it.
