Further Arrests in the NCBR “Fast Track” Case

Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau, acting on the orders of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), have arrested six individuals. The investigation concerns irregularities in the awarding of grants under the “Fast Track – Digital Innovations” competition organized by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR).

On 2 June 2026, officers from the Regional Office of the CBA in Warsaw arrested six individuals in the Mazowieckie, Wielkopolskie, Pomorskie and Opolskie provinces. Among those detained were persons responsible for managing a project that had received public funding. During the operation, searches were also conducted at the suspects’ residences in order to secure documentation and electronic devices that may constitute evidence in the proceedings.

Abuse in the Project Selection Process

Since 2023, officers from the Regional Office of the CBA in Warsaw have been conducting a multi-threaded investigation into suspected financial irregularities related to the selection and implementation of projects under the European Regional Development Fund competition “Fast Track – Digital Innovations.” The programme was administered by the National Centre for Research and Development in its capacity as an intermediate body under the Smart Growth Operational Programme.

As a result of the alleged criminal scheme, the National Centre for Research and Development was exposed to losses amounting to nearly PLN 55 million.

Charges and Preventive Measures

The detained individuals were brought before the Office of the European Delegated Prosecutor at the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, where they were charged with attempted fraud involving property of significant value and making false statements in official documents.

Preventive measures were imposed on the suspects, including police supervision and a ban on contacting specified individuals.
