CENTRAL ANTI-CORRUPTION BUREAU Public Official and Businessman Caught in the Act - News

On 2 June 2026, officers from the Regional Office of the CBA in Gdańsk detained two men in Gdańsk — a public official and a businessman — while a bribe was being handed over. The officers secured PLN 5,000 in cash.

Searches were also conducted to secure documentation and electronic devices that may constitute evidence in the case. CBA officers seized a Maserati vehicle worth approximately PLN 250,000 and PLN 12,000 in cash from the Gdańsk official. They also secured PLN 50,000 in cash from the detained businessman.

Bribe in Exchange for a Plot of Land

Officers from the Regional Office of the CBA in Gdańsk, under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk, are conducting an investigation into the acceptance of a financial benefit by a Gdańsk public official in an amount of no less than PLN 25,000.

According to the findings, the official, in connection with the performance of his public duties, allegedly accepted a financial benefit of at least PLN 25,000 from the detained businessman. In return, he was expected to create a legal situation enabling the sale of a plot of land owned by the Municipality of the City of Gdańsk without a public tender procedure.

Charges and Preventive Measures

The detainees were brought before the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk, where they were formally charged.

With regard to the suspected public official, the prosecutor filed a motion for pre-trial detention. The court granted the prosecutor’s request.

As for the suspected businessman, the prosecutor decided to apply a non-custodial preventive measure in the form of bail set at PLN 70,000.
