Another person detained in connection with an investigation into corruption cases in Detention Centre
Officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau have detained another person in connection with an investigation into obtaining financial gains and violating the law by the officers of the Prison Service. The proceedings are supervised by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź.
On 8 July 2026, officers of the CBA’s Regional Office in Łódź have detained another Prison Service officer in the Łódzkie voivodeship. The detention is the effect of an investigation that has been ongoing for several months into, among other things, a breach of the law by a Prison Service officer.
Abuse of power
The findings of the investigation suggest that the detained Prison Service officer is alleged to have exceeded their powers as a public official. They kept official documents at their private residence, over which they did not have exclusive disposal.
Charges and preventive measures
The detainee was taken to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź, where they were charged with abuse of power by a public official. The prosecutor imposed non-custodial preventive measures on the detainee in the form of police supervision.
Ongoing Case
During the first operation in 2025, two Prison Service officers were arrested; the court imposed a preventive measure in the form of two months’ pre-trial detention on them.
The preparatory proceedings are ongoing. Further procedural activities are planned.
CBA appeals
The CBA reminds of the possibility of benefiting from the statutory non-punishment clause. To avoid criminal liability for offering a bribe, individuals involved in offences such as bribery (Article 229(6) of the Penal Code), must:
• report the offence to the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau or the Public Prosecutor’s Office;
• disclose all material circumstances of the offence;
• do so before law enforcement authorities become aware of their involvement from another source.
Anyone possessing information regarding the criminal scheme may contact the CBA’s Regional Office in Łódź, Rzgowska 34/36 St., 93-172 Łódź.
