The CBA secures documents in the investigation. Could the health of consumers be endangered?
The CBA is investigating whether and why popular trade networks in whole Poland have found fish products, that did not meet the quality requirements, which could be dangerous for health. The CBA agents from Szczecin suspect irregularities in veterinary control. The CBA officers have secured evidence in 26 locations, including offices and private manufacturing facilities.
The Regional Office of the CBA in Szczecin, under the supervision of the Pomeranian Terrain Division of Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk, conducts investigations concerning, inter alia, irregularities in drawing up control protocols of production facilities for food industry and the issuance of administrative decisions by the local competent veterinary inspectorates. This happened between 2015 and 2016.
Under this procedure, on 23 and 24 May 2017, officers of the Central Anticorruption Bureau, acting on the instructions of the prosecutor, conducted searches in 26 places in the Pomorskie, Mazowieckie and Zachodniopomorskie voivodships.
During the course of the proceedings, the CBA agents secured documents at offices, institutions and private commercial companies, as well as at persons employed by those entities. These actions were designed to provide comprehensive evidence preservation.
In the course of the investigation conducted by the CBA and the prosecutor's office, it was found that as a result of the questioned controls and administrative decisions, fish products were put on the market to popular trade networks on the territory of the whole country.
In the case the investigators examine, among others, the suspicion of putting on the market food products which did not meet the quality requirements. This could bring danger to the health of many persons - consumers of these products.
So far in the course of the investigation nobody has been charged. No one was detained.
