Mayor of the Koło detained

The CBA investigation concerns setting up tenders for over 2.5 million zlotys. Agents from the Regional Office of the CBA in Łódź detained the Mayor of the City of Koło. This is the 6th person suspected in the case.

The Regional Office of the Central Anticorruption Bureau in Łódź under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Łódź conducts an investigation concerning the procedure of setting tenders - a bid rigging of three municipal companies in favor of one of the Wrocław companies. CBA investigators have determined, that representatives from the Wroclaw company were to enter into an agreement with local government officials and employees of local government companies in connection with the announced public tenders for the delivery of municipal waste cars announced in 2016, amounting to over 2.5 million zlotys. The CBA agents from Łódź detained then the president and the trader from the Wroclaw-based supply company for specialized trucks, the president of the Municipal Department of Municipal Services in Koło, the former president of this company and an employee of the Municipal Cleaning Plant in Pruszków. The detainees were charged with big rigging.

The new findings of the CBA and the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Łódź indicate, that the Mayor of Koło has exceeded his powers and acted to the detriment of the public interest to gain financial benefit in connection with unlawful activities aimed at eliminating potential bidders from those public contracts. Detained Mayor of Koło will be charged in the prosecutor's office.

CBA agents are searching the offices in the Town Hall of Koło, in two municipalities in Koło to secure documentation and e-mail correspondence.
