He wanted to corrupt a local government official from Podkarpacie. He got caught
The Regional Office of the Central Anticorruption Bureau in Rzeszów conducts under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów an investigation into making promises to a person performing public function financial benefits in the form of money in the amount not less than 30,000 zł constituting 5% of the value of planned investments, in exchange for setting tenders. The investigation was entrusted to the CBA Regional Office in Rzeszów.
In the course of the case it was found, that an entrepreneur who, among others, was the chairman of the board of directors and a shareholder of a joint-stock company registered in Warsaw and a shareholder of two other capital companies, was to make a corruption proposal to the head of the local government unit from the Podkarpacie area. The bribe was supposed to be 5% of the value of contracts that were to be granted to his company by the local government. The bribe amount was supposed to amount to 30,000 zł in one case only.
On the basis of evidence collected in the case, the Rzeszów CBA agents detained the entrepreneur in Warsaw. Person detained by the CBA will be brought to the District Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów, where he will be charged with corruption.
The CBA agents are securing evidence in the form of, among others, jottings, contracts, offers for public procurement and electronic data in two Warsaw companies, at the suspect's apartment, at an accounting office and at a local government unit from the Podkarpackie region.
The investigation results show that the disclosed act could only be a fragment of the detainee's dealings. The findings of the CBA investigation, indicate that the financial benefits given by him in a camouflaged manner to representatives of local governments, could have been a practiced way of obtaining public procurements. Bribes could reach up to 150,000 zł at one time.
The case conducted by the CBA in Rzeszów is multithreaded and may involve representatives of other local governments.
