Joint action of the CBA and CBŚP. 7 persons detained in connection with multimillion VAT extortions

The officers of the CBA and CBŚP (Central Investigation Bureau of the Police) have detained 7 persons involved in VAT extortion in the trade of fuels. The estimated amount of State Treasury losses is over PLN 33 million.

The detentions took place in Poznań and the surrounding area. Among the detainees is a leader of a criminal group and its members. In the course of conducted activities, the officers searched places of residence and premises of purported business activity in order to secure evidence.

As it results from the findings of the investigators, the group's activity consisted of using domestic and foreign companies to issue VAT invoices attesting untruth, documenting alleged trade in fuels. These invoices were subsequently disclosed in the submitted tax declarations and constituted the basis for the refund of undue VAT tax. According to the findings, profits from criminal activities were then transferred to commercial transactions through a number of other illegal activities. In the result of the activity of the group, State Treasury lost 33 million zlotys.

The investigation in this case is conducted by the officers of the division of the CBŚP in Wrocław in cooperation with the officers of the Regional Office of the CBA in Poznań under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław. The case is still developmental.
