Visit of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau delegation to Palestine
Between 9-11 December 2019 a delegation of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau paid an official visit in Palestine. The purpose of the visit was to participate in the international conference 'Integrity and Governance for Sustainable Development'. The conference took place in the capital, Ramallah. It was organized by the Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day, celebrated worldwide on the 9th December each year.
The three-day conference was officially opened by the President of Palestine, Mr. Mahmud Abbas, who gave a speech addressed to the participants of the meeting. Representatives of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau, at the invitation of the Palestinian side, actively participated in the conference. They presented Polish experience in preventing and combating corruption, as well as, fighting economic crime. The topics of interventions of the members of the Polish delegation focused on programme aspects of anti-corruption policy (Government Program for the Prevention of Corruption for 2018-2020), preventive activity and the most important results of the Bureau's investigative work.
The aim of the conference was to discuss systemic mechanisms for preventing and combating corruption, including exchanging experience regarding their effectiveness and opportunities for strengthening. For the representatives of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau, the conference became an opportunity to provide the Palestinian side with practical guidelines and best practices on preventing and combating corruption.
It should be mentioned that on 22 October 2019 during a visit of the Palestinian delegation to Warsaw, the Head of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau - Ernest Bejda and the Head of the Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) - Dr. Ahmad Barak, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the scope of preventing and combating corruption. The purpose of the MoU is to create the basis for wider cooperation in the field of specialist training, exchange of information and experience in the areas of preventing and combating corruption.
The Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission was created in 2010 on the basis of the Decree of the President of the Palestinian National Authority as an independent body with its own budget and administrative facilities. PACC is a co-creator and the most important implementer of the state anti-corruption policy in Palestine.
