Real estate valuation experts detained by the CBA
In connection with the matter of causing at least PLN 50 million detriment to the property of a commercial bank and attempting to obtain PLN 23 million of undue VAT, the CBA officers have detained four real estate appraisers.
The officers of the Regional Office of the CBA in Warsaw jointly with the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor's Office are investigating the suspected damage to property of at least PLN 50 million in the bank's property in connection with granting an investment loan to finance the purchase of the exhibition center in Opole. The investigation also concerns actions to the detriment of the State Treasury by attempting to obtain PLN 23 million of undue VAT.
Investigative findings indicate that the credit was granted without establishing a particular form of security for its repayment, despite the lack of creditworthiness, and then its repayment dates were extended by subsequent annexes, thus concealing the bank's losses.
In connection with this case, the CBA agents have detained in Warsaw four real estate appraisers. Everything seems to indicate that the appraisals prepared by them increased the value of the real estate, and thus were used to obtain increased amounts of credits.
The first detentions in this case took place last July. At that time, the CBA officers from Warsaw detained 10 people, including former bank chairmen, former board members, directors and bank employees, as well as former and current CEOs of companies from the Mazowieckie voivodship.
