Head of the CBA at the 25th Economic Forum

On 8th September 2015, the Head of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau Paweł Wojtunik participated in the 25th Economic Forum, held from 8th to 10th September under the theme “Towards a Resilient Europe. Strategies for the Future”. The event’s venue was Krynica-Zdrój, Poland.

The Head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau actively participated in two plenary sessions:

  • Faces of Corruption: Ukrainian Vivisection,
  • Shadow Economy in Poland and Selected Sectors – Mechanism, Consequences and Required Actions.

The participants of the debate on Ukraine were trying to provide an answer to the question whether or not Ukraine could effectively bridge the “corruption gap” between the EU and itself in the process of European integration. The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) places Ukraine in the group of the most corrupt countries.

The debate on shadow economy revealed the importance of this phenomenon and its impact on numerous areas of the state functioning, companies, government revenues, and the entire society. According to the United Nations, shadow economy is one of the most significant anti–corruption challenges that Poland has to face, and an important barrier to the growth of the Polish economy.

The 25th Economic Forum programme covered numerous debates, thematic blocks, presentations and reports, divided into 12 thematic paths dedicated to key sectors of the economy and social life, such as: Macroeconomy, Business and Management, Energy, Innovations, Healthcare, New Economy, Society, State and Reforms.
