They offered to settle cases for bribes. They have been detained by the CBA

Six more individuals have been detained by the CBA in connection with the investigation into invoking of influence in state institutions.

The officers of the CBA Regional Office in Rzeszów, acting jointly with the Silesian Branch of the National Public Prosecutor's Office, have been conducting proceedings concerning the activity of an organised crime group. All findings indicate that the group invoked influence in public institutions, including law enforcement agencies and State Treasury companies, and undertook mediation in settling matters in return for financial advantages and promises thereof. The first detentions in this case took place in October 2020. At that time, six suspects were charged with corruption and invoking influence in state institutions.

Last week, six persons (two women and four men) were detained in the case in the Mazovian, Silesian and Łódź Voivodships. At the same time, their places of residence were searched. All of them were taken to the Silesian Branch of the National Public Prosecutor's Office, where the prosecutor presented them with charges of paid protection. The evidence gathered in the case revealed further corruption offences, consisting in giving financial advantages in the amount of at least PLN 185 thousand in return for settling issues related to avoiding serving the sentenced prison term by one of the detainees and granting subsidies from the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

The court agreed to the motion of the prosecutor to apply temporary custody for three months to four of the detainees. The prosecutor applied non-custodial preventive measures against the two remaining detainees, including property sureties, police supervision, a ban on contact with the participants of the proceedings and a ban on leaving the country.

So far, there are 13 suspects in the case, out of which 10 are under temporary custody.
