The CBA notifies the public prosecution following an inspection of the construction of a swimming pool in Szczecin

An inspection of a public contract for the construction of a swimming pool at Primary School No. 10 in Szczecin has been completed with a notification submitted to the prosecutor's office. The Municipal Office of the City of Szczecin could lose almost PLN 1.5 million.

The officers of the Control Proceedings Department of the Regional Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in Szczecin conducted an inspection at the Municipal Office of the City of Szczecin. The procedure was carried out from 22 August 2019 to 7 May 2020. The inspectors checked the correctness of the implementation of the public contract for the construction of a swimming pool at Primary School No. 10 in Szczecin.

The findings of the inspection indicate that the deputy mayor of Szczecin withdrew from the contract in breach of the deadline specified in the contract and thus prevented the Municipal Office of Szczecin from effectively claiming the contractual damages in the amount of PLN 1,418,682. Moreover, the findings indicate that despite the lack of obligation to cover the costs of remuneration of the subcontractors who were not reported to the municipality, the Municipality of Szczecin paid them the amount of PLN 364,123.35 from the funds of the performance bond.

As a result of the inspection, on 29 January 2021, the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in Szczecin submitted a notification to the District Prosecutor's Office in Szczecin (subsequently redirected to the Circuit Prosecutor's Office Szczecin-Niebuszewo) on the possibility of having committed an offence by the Deputy Mayor of Szczecin in connection with the failure to comply with an obligation.
