Bribe in an office — for a permit

Three persons, including a civil servant of the Żyrardów County Office, have been detained red-handed by the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau officers.

In the course of their activities, the CBA officers from Lublin obtained information on corrupt practices taking place in the County Office in Żyrardów. The investigators' swift and effective actions resulted in detaining an employee of the Agriculture and Environmental Protection Department of the County Office, and two entrepreneurs from Warsaw operating in the service sector.
The detentions took place in the main office a moment after the transfer of PLN 10,000. In exchange for the money, the official promised to prepare documents and, as a result, to consider positively an application for a permit to collect waste.
At the same time, the detainees' places of residence and work were searched. The evidence gathered by the officers was handed over to the District Prosecutor's Office in Płock, where the detainees heard corruption charges. By the court order, the detained civil servant was remanded in custody for two months.
Non-custodial preventive measures were applied against the entrepreneurs, including bail, a ban on contact with other suspects in the case, and police supervision.
