Services for bribes

Two persons involved in corrupt practices have been detained by the CBA. At least PLN 160 thousand of financial advantages in return for a favourable outcome of tenders.

Officers of the CBA Regional Office in Poznań, under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Szczecin, have been investigating demands and acceptance of financial advantages by a person holding a managerial position in the Polish Gas Company in return for abuse of powers or failure to perform duties involving obstruction of public tenders, entering into agreements with other persons and activities constituting acts of unfair competition or unacceptable preferential practices in connection with conducted tender procedures.

In connection with this case, the CBA officers have detained two persons, including a former manager of the Investment and Repair Department of the Gorzów Wielkopolski Branch of the Gas Plant of the Polish Gas Company Ltd., and a Mazovian entrepreneur.

All evidence indicates that the former manager accepted at least PLN 160,000 of financial advantages in return for impermissible favouring of entrepreneurs in the course of conducted tenders concerning construction services and development of a concept for gasification of the construction of gas pipelines.

The evidence indicates that the bribes were paid in a veiled form, as payment for fictitious consultancy services, allegedly provided by the former manager to bidders as part of his own business.

In the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Szczecin, the men heard corruption charges. By court decision, the entrepreneur will spend the next two months in custody. Non-custodial preventive measures have been applied against the other detainee.

This is the first operation in this investigation. The proceedings were initiated based on evidence gathered by the CBA. Further persons involved in the corrupt practices are being identified. The investigation is developing.
