CBA: Head of Supervisory Board of Azoty Group and 5 other persons arrested
Agents from the Regional Office of the CBA in Lublin, as a result of the special operation, detained 6 people in a corrupt case, demands of 40 million PLN and invoking to influences at the largest state-owned companies. • Among the detainees is the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Azoty Group Marek G., a representative of Lotos Group and a businessmen. • The court took into consideration the requests of the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw and all detainees were temporarily arrested.
Agents from the Regional Office of the CBA in Lublin tracked down corruption activity of an employee from Gdańsk Group Lotos Aleksander I. and the president of energy company from Warsaw Andrzej M. Both men offered their “help” in settling guaranteed, long-term contracts for the purchase of biocomponents by the Lotos Group. But of course the help was not to be free.
In return, the investor, for whom the men would handle the contracts, was supposed to significantly recapitalize the company of a Warsaw businessman, and additionally was supposed to give them a commission of around 10% on the sale of biofuels to Lotos.
Similar modus operandi was supposed to work on supplies of various types of semi-finished products to the Azoty Group, including bypassing the company's procedures.
The guarantee of the success of this undertaking was the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Marek G., and a specific "arrangement" with him, which would guarantee, that the illegal deal would succeed. Marek G. was supposed to supervise the business with the Azoty Group, in exchange for approximately 5% of the multimillion contracts.
It is time for realization and wrap-up of the special operation. The detentions took place in the Lubelskie, Kujawskie, Pomeranian voivodships. The CBA agents conducted searches in the company’s rooms occupied by the suspect and at the headquarters of Lotos. In addition to mentioned individuals, the CBA agents have also detained three other suspects, who were helping to create this system.
The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Azoty Group Marek G. and the businessman Andrzej M. were charged with, among others, invoking influences in Azoty Group (also confirming in one’s belief of the existence of these influences by underlining the professional stature of Marek G.) and acting in agreement for the detriment of Azoty Group.
The CBA's findings indicate that the suspects undertook to settle the supply and guarantee of the receipt of raw materials by the companies of Azoty Group in return for financial benefits in the form of a small company's investment of 40 million PLN and a further several percent share in profits from the sale of raw materials.
Other people detained by the CBA were charged in the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office with similar crimes. They acted jointly and in agreement in 2017, invoking to influences at Lotos Group SA, emphasizing the employment of Aleksander I. in the organizational unit responsible for the preparation of contracts for the purchase of biocomponents. For arranging the supplies to Lotos Group SA of the biocomponents, they wanted financial benefits of at least in the form of share in profit from their sale.
The court took into consideration the requests of the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw and all detainees were temporarily arrested.
