8 persons detained regarding the multimillion extortions by a company from the Gdańsk Science and Technology Park
Joint activities of the CBA Regional Office in Gdańsk and the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk. The CBA agents detained 8 persons - among them is Wojciech K. - representative of a company based in the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, the nominal president of the company, two cientists from the technical university and other persons acting within or in agreement with members of an organized criminal group.
The group, operating over the years 2008-2016, aimed at committing a number of crimes, including frauds of great value to the detriment of the State Treasury and the European Union budget, by submitting applications for co-financing fictitious projects at the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR), the Polish agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) and the Ministry of Development. The CBA's findings indicate that the group has extorted or attempted to extort even tens of millions of zlotys in grants.
The CBA officers from Gdańsk are conducting searches in a dozen or so flats. They are securing documents, data and computer media.
Persons detained by the CBA will hear in the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk even several charges.
It is worth noting that Wojciech K. was charged before at the prosecutor's office and had been detained earlier by the CBA. The charges concerned, inter alia, fraud. As it has been established, counterfeit and documents attesting untruth of significant importance for obtaining the multimillion subsidies were allegedly issued by one of the companies based in the so-called tax haven - in American Delaware. According to the findings of the case, this foreign company was related to Wojciech K. The CBA officers foiled this attempt to illegally acquire nearly 5 million zł in subsidies for the company.
The investigation is conducted by the CBA Regional Office in Gdańsk under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk.
