9 persons detained by the CBA
The officers from the Regional Office of the CBA in Katowice have detained 9 persons in Włocławek and in the Silesian voivodeship, including two representing one of the Silesian computer companies and seven persons representing other companies operating in various economic sectors. The activities are related to a new investigation conducted jointly with the District Prosecutor's Office in Katowice. The proceedings are conducted in several threads. Investigators' findings indicate that detainees were acting within an organized criminal group in connection with the undue refund of an excess of VAT in the amount of almost 10 million zlotys for one of Silesian companies, extorting money from lessors to finance the purchase of equipment and extorting co-financing from the European Union budget and the state budget.
After the completion of searches, the detainees were taken to the prosecutor's office, where they heard allegations of participation in an organized criminal group, fraud, money laundering, extortion and assistance in extorting undue VAT in the amount of PLN 10 million as well as attestation of untruth.
5 persons were taken to custody by court decision.
