The CBA has detained a group of 8 people for paid protection
The officers of the Regional Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in Lublin, together with the Mazovian Field Division of the Department for Organised Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, have been carrying out an investigation into invoking influence in public institutions in 2018.
The CBA officers have detained eight individuals. They faced charges of paid protection.
The eight suspects were detained in Warsaw, Skarżysko-Kamienna, Lublin, Gdańsk, Sopot, Kraków and Tarnów. Subsequently, the CBA officers conducted a number of searches, during which they secured evidence for use in the course of further procedural activities.
The investigators' findings indicate that the detainees invoked influence in state and local government institutions, particularly in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Voivodship Office for the Protection of Monuments in Wrocław, the General Directorate of State Forests, the Municipal Office of Kraków, and the Lower Silesian Voivodship Conservator of Monuments in Wrocław, the Regional Office in Jelenia Góra. They promised to arrange employment or contracts in exchange for bribes.
The evidence gathered in this case shows that the amount of the bribes amounted to over PLN 70 000. However, the amount of the requested financial advantages was 5% of multi-million contracts.
In the prosecutor's office, the detainees have been charged with paid protection.
This is the first operation in these proceedings. Further activities are being arranged.
